Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun state has assented to a bill establishing the Moshood Abiola University of Technology, to be sited in Abeokuta, the state capital.
The bill upgrades Moshood Abiola Polytechnic to the proposed university of technology.
Also signed by the Governor is the bill establishing the Ogun State Polytechnic at Ipokia, in the Ipokia local government area.
The Governor speaking after signing the bill during the State Executive Council meeting at the Governor’s Office, Abeokuta, explained that the new university and polytechnic were conceived to enhance the quality of education in the state.
The governor said that the state government will seek advice from professionals in education sector and the national university commission on the establishment of the institutions.
Amosun commended the State House of Assembly for the speedy passage of the bills.
In an interview with newsmen after the occasion, Mr Suraj Adekunbi, the Speaker, said the House gave the bill accelerated passage because education is the priority of the government.
He noted that the establishment of the two institutions would create more jobs in the state.
