Ogun State government said it will begin considering the approval of the execution of some of the convicts on death row, in prisons formations in the state.
The approval empowers Governor Ibikunle Amosun to sign the death warrant of prisoners on death row who committed heinous crimes leading to loss of lives.
Justice Commissioner, Doctor Olumide Ayeni, announced the decision to newsmen, after the weekly meeting of the State Executive Council meeting, at the Governor’s office, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta.
The commissioner explained that, the Council decided to lift embargo on execution of prisoners on death row, to cope with the growing cases of insecurity ranging from cultism and kidnapping in the state.
Ayeni also said the decision was taken, following the directive of Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, to state governments, to treat the issue of capital offences with all seriousness.
