Amosun gives conditional backing to calls for restructuring

Governor Ibikunle Amosun has blamed the growing agitation for the restructuring of Nigeria on the act of impunity and unfair distribution of resources.

Amosun addressing participants of the executive intelligence course of the institute of security studies in Abuja, said he back the agitation, but does not support any restructuring that would balkanize Nigeria.

The governor said the envisaged restructuring should focus on the reform of the formula for allocating revenue in the Federation Account, and creation of the state police, and other issues that would strengthen the unity of Nigerians.

He gave an instance of Ogun state, which is Nigeria’s industrial hub, but found itself on the twenty fifth position of the revenue allocation list of the federation account, a situation which he said represents unfair distribution of resources from the national treasury.
