Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun state has ordered the release of three prisoners and commuted the death sentence of two condemned prisoners to life imprisonment.
The governor’s directive in a letter sent to the state controller of prisons was signed by permanent secretary (political affairs and administration) Mrs. Funmi Ajayi, on behalf of the Secretary to the State Government, Taiwo Adeoluwa.
The three lucky prisoners to be released are Gbenga Oyeleye, Idowu Olojede and Dare Jimoh, serving various terms following their conviction over criminal charges.
Oyeleye, who is serving a three-year jail term sentence has six months yet to serve, Olojede was released on grounds of old age and good record, while Jimoh, a long term convict, got reprieve for good conduct and good record.
The two condemned prisoners, whose death sentences were commuted to life jail, are Nurudeen Suleiman and Isikilu Olamilekan, both males, were sentenced for robbery at an Ijebu Ode High Court on December 14, 2006.
Amosun had during his visit to the Ibara prison, Abeokuta last January 25, as part of activities to mark his 59th birthday, promised to review cases of those who deserved to be pardoned.
