Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun state has raised a fresh alert over the return of militants to the riverine areas of the state.
Some of the areas, according to the governor, are Makun Omi and Ode Omi in the Ijebu Water Side local government area.
Amosun who raised the alert while receiving the Deputy Inspector General of Police in-charge of South West, Foluso Adebanjo at his office in Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, said he had been receiving distress calls from traditional rulers in the area on the return of the militants through the waterways linking the area with Ondo state.
Some of the residents in the area are already relocating elsewhere.
Urging security agencies not to allow the situation to develop into a full blown security threat to the state, Amosun said he had written fresh letters to the service chiefs on the security threat the state is facing.
The governor called for the establishment of two more mobile police base in the state, to be located in the Ogun West and Ogun East senatorial districts of the state, while revealing that his administration had purchased two additional armoured personnel carrier for the police in the state.
The Deputy Inspector General of Police speaking to Rockcity FM, after the meeting said that additional police area commands will be established in the state to cope with the security challenges in the state.
