Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), said it is beefing up security and surveillance of Nigeria’s major airports, following a report that fighters of Islamic State (IS), are sneaking into the country.
A British newspaper, the sun, reports that the Islamic State is sneaking its fighters from Syria into Nigeria, while boko haram are also sending its fighters in exchange for more training.
FAAN said, airports that it is giving special attention include those of Ikeja, in Lagos, Abuja, Kano, Enugu and Port Harcourt.
Spokesperson of the agency, Mrs Henrietta Yakubu, who made this known, said the measure aims at preventing terrorists attacks on Nigeria’s airports.
Aviation security personnel, according to her, are working with other security agencies to maintain surveillance on airports perimeter fences, the cargo areas, the runway and other restricted areas.
