Abiodun Asks Customs To Discharge Duties With Human Face In Ogun

Governor Dapo Abiodun has urged operatives of Nigerian Customs Service to always exercise restrain while dealing with smugglers operating across Ogun State’s border with Benin republic.

He asks leadership of customs service in the state, to observe the rule of engagement and stop shooting near markets and along roads in Ogun border communities while chasing smugglers.

The governor made the call while receiving the new comptroller of area one of customs command in the state, Dera Nnamdi at the governor’s office, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta.

Abiodun said that, people in the state’s border communities will co-operate with customs if their operatives treat people with dignity.

The new comptroller said Ogun State is the fourth largest contributor to Nigeria’s gross domestic product, adding that, trade route with Benin republic has unfortunately become a war zone due to the activities of smugglers.

Nnamdi said although he was in the state to enforce the federal government’s policy he will ensure that, his men exercise restrain while dealing with people.

He, however cautions people against attacking customs personnel to avoid clashes.
