Armed policemen have beefed up security at the Abia State Government House in Umuahia, after the emergence of two Governors, following conflicting court rulings.
Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) claiming to be acting on the last Monday’s judgement of a Federal High Court in Abuja, on Thursday certified Doctor Uche Ogar as the new winner of the April 2015 Governorship Poll in the state.
But the Incumbent Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, insisting that he remains the State Governor, obtained a counter order from an Abia State High Court in Osisioma, stopping the inauguration of Ogah as the new Governor.
Ikpeazu said it was wrong for INEC to issue a certificate of return to Ogah when he has filed a notice of appeal against the Monday court ruling.
INEC Spokesman, Oluwole Osaze-uzzi, however, said the electoral body acted within the ambit of law.
Meanwhile, the state PDP has backed Governor Ikpeazu at an emergency meeting in Umuahia, rejecting Ogah as the new Governor.
