Abducted Ogun senior VIO officer dies in kidnappers’ custody

Gunmen kill policemen, kidnap expatriate in Kogi

A senior vehicle inspection officer (VIO), Kehinde Maliq, who was kidnapped along the Siun segment of the Abeokuta-Sagamu interchange expressway, has died in the custody of his abductors.

Malik, who headed the Quarry Road office of the agency in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, had been declared missing since his abduction on December 3, 2016.

Police then launched a manhunt for his kidnappers, who had sometimes demanded for a ransom, but stop contacting their victim’s family few months later.

One of the suspected kidnappers, Umaru Adamu, who has been arrested by the police, was on Wednesday, arraigned before an Abeokuta Magistrate Court for alleged conspiracy, kidnapping and murder.

The prosecutor told the court that the suspect who was recently arrested, during interrogation confessed to have taken part in the kidnapping of the former VIO officer.

Also, the prosecution said the accused confirmed that the VIO officer died in the custody of the kidnappers.

The magistrate, Idowu Olayinka, ordered the suspect to be remanded in Oba Prison, near Abeokuta, and adjourned the case till February 14, 2018.
