Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) says it has screened 903 councillorship candidates, to contest the October 8 local government election in the state.
Chairman of the screening committee of OGSIEC, Barrister Mutiu Agboke, said candidates with anomalies were allowed to regularize their positions, while 17 political parties participated in the exercise.
Agboke who is also the Commissioner III of the Commission said apart from misleading information on the data forms of some candidates, 269 candidates were found not to have records of tax payment in the last three years.
He added that the committee screened the two existing factions of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) known to the commission, while it discovered that there were some names that appeared on the two lists.
He explained that the intention of the commission was not to disqualify candidates, noting that many of them with irregularities were already addressing them.
