Five members of a kidnap gang have been killed in a shoot-out with policemen near Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital.

Their victim, a police corporal, Stephen Adesokan, was rescued by the police team unhurt from his captors.

The police team, including anti-kidnap unit, engaged the kidnappers along Ajura-Ogere road, while on a mission to rescue the police officer, who was abducted in the axis last Friday.

The policeman was abducted from his car on his way from Ogere to Abeokuta by the kidnappers, who took him into the forest and later demanded a N100 million ransom from his family.

Spokesman of the state Police Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said one of the kidnappers escaped with gunshot injuries.

The state Police commissioner, Ahmed Ilyasu, on hearing of the incident, directed the command’s anti-kidnap unit to join police team from Owode Egba Police Division in tracking down the kidnappers and their victim.
