Five persons have been killed and 17 others injured in ghastly auto crashes in the early hours of Thursday on Kara Bridge, near Berger on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
16 vehicles were involved in the multiple crashes.
The vehicles included a MAN Diesel marked JJJ342XD, DAF trucks – APP769XR and GGE818XC, two Sino trucks – KRD122XC and KRD123XC, a Mack truck – BDG561XG, a Nissan Cabster – XS216KSF, two Honda Accord cars – MUS411DG and APP303DV, Lexus Jeep – FKJ 475BR, Volkswagen bus – KTU594XM, Ford Bus – KTU340XU, Mazda Bus – AKD520XW and Nissan Bus – BDG27AA.
Ogun Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Clement Oladele, said the cause of the accident is not yet known.
He said that bodies of three of those who died in the accident, had been deposited at the morgue of the Olabisi Onabanjo University Hospital, Sagamu, one at the Ikeja General Hospital, and the remaining one at the Accident Centre at Ojota, also in Lagos.
Those injured, according to the FRSC sector commander, were taken to the accident and emergency hospital, at Ojota, Lagos, Gbagada and Ikeja general hospitals.
Meanwhile, many people have been feared killed and injured when a train derailed at Fagba axis of Agege in Lagos.
Several vehicles and property were also damaged in the accident, which caused traffic jam in the area.
Spokesman of the Lagos State Police Command, Olarinde Famous-Cole, said the train crashed into a trailer, leaving several people killed and injured.
