The South South state governors have asked President Muhammadu Buhari, to stop the arraignment of the Chief Justice of the Federation, Justice Walter Onnoghen, before the code of conduct tribunal, for alleged false declaration of assets.
The governors also asked the chief judge to ignore the summons of the code of conduct bureau that he should appear before the tribunal.
The governors in a communique issued after an emergency meeting in Abuja on Sunday, warned that the timing of the trial few weeks to the presidential poll is causing anxiety, and tension.
They fear that it may cause possible breakdown of law and order.
The governors argued that only the National Judicial Commission is empowered by the constitution to handle the investigations of the allegations levelled against Onnoghen.
At the meeting were governors of Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta, Akwa Ibom and Cross River states.
