Special Forces of the army, airforce and the navy have recaptured Baga on the fringe of Lake Chad basin in Borno state from the Islamic State of West Africa (ISWAS).
Army said that hundreds of the insurgents were killed in the special operation.
A soldier was however, killed and five others injured.
Army spokesman, Brigadier General Sani Usman in a statement said the clearance operation began last December 28, during which several communities were cleared of the remnants of the insurgents.
He lists the towns and villages as including Zare, Gudumbali, Kukawa, and Cross Kauwa, as well as the naval base on the Lake Chad.
The army spokesman, said the Special Forces led by 707 special force brigade are now consolidating their hold by clearing the remnant of the insurgents from northern Borno and fringes of the Lake Chad basin.
