333 Katsina School Students Still Missing, Says Maisari

Gunmen kidnap students and teachers in Ogun state

Governor Aminu Maisari has put at 333, the number of students of Government Science Secondary School, Kankara in Katsina State, still missing, since attack by armed bandits on Friday

Maisari, giving an update while receiving a federal government’s delegation and the service chiefs at the Katsina state government house, Katsina, says that a total of 839 students were within the school, when the bandits invaded it

According to the governor, the school authorities are still counting, because more of the students who escaped during the attack, are still showing up

Meanwhile, the presidency has disputed the number of missing students

Presidential spokesman, Garba Sheu, speaking on BBC Hausa service, quoted students claiming that only ten of their colleagues were taken away by the bandits

Sheu, however says the claim of the students is still subject to a verification, because more students are still coming out of hiding, while parents of students in the school are being contacted

Also, the presidential spokesman, says troops had surrounded the bandits who abducted the students, and President Muhammadu Buhari is being briefed every hour by military commanders on the progress of the operation
