The Nigeria Identity Card Management Commission (NIMC) said it has issued national identity number to close to 30 million Nigerians.
Lagos State regional coordinator of the commission, Kayode Adegoke, who made this known, also said that more than 100,000 printed national identity cards are awaiting collection.
“The Director-General, Mr Aliyu Aziz, said that NIMC has issued NIN to about 30 million Nigerians while more than 100,000 printed cards are awaiting collection.
“Our mandate in this agency is to ensure that every Nigerian is issued a personal identification number as it is done in other countries of the world. For this reason, the agency has spread its registration centres across all the local governments of Lagos State to bring them nearer to residents,” he said.
He asked Nigerians whose cards are ready to go the commission’s office to collect them.
The Lagos regional coordinator said the commission is partnering with organizations, such as banks to make national identity number a mandatory requirement for transactions.
