The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has put the number of pupils enrolled in Nigeria’s primary schools at 27.9 million in 2018.
Eighty three per cent of the pupils are in public primary schools.
UBEC Executive Secretary, Doctor Hamid Boboyi, provided the statistics in a lecture he delivered at a policy retreat organized by Kaduna State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Kaduna.
He said the figure of primary school enrollment which was 24.2 million in 2006, dropped to 21.9 million, before rising to 27.9 million in 2018.
