Up to 20 people have died and many have been injured after a large tree fell on them at a popular waterfall spot in Kintampo, Ghana.
Emergency officials said they were swimming during a storm when the tree was brought down by the storm.
Ghana national fire service spokesman Prince Billy Anaglate said the incident happened at the Kintampo waterfalls in the Brong-Ahafo region on Sunday afternoon.
According to him most of them are students of the Wenchi Senior High School while others are tourists.
He said they are trying to save those who are trapped by cutting the trees with chainsaws.
Fire service spokesman Mr Anaglate said 18 students had died at the scene, two others died in hospital, while 11 people were receiving treatment.
“They were swimming in the river when there was a storm, a windy atmosphere that had uprooted some of the trees, and they had fallen on some of them – those who were apparently swimming,” Anaglate said.
