1,292 die, 8,466 injured in auto crashes between January and March this year

An estimated 1,292 Nigerians died in various auto crashes nationwide in the first quarter of this year.

National Bureau of statistics in the newly released data, also said 8,446 Nigerians were injured in 2,482 road crashes, recorded during the period under review.

The bureau explained that 1,186 out of 1,292 who lost their lives in the auto crashes, are adults, while others are children.

According to the agency, speed violation is responsible for 50.8 percent of the crashes, tyre burst for 8.2 percent, while dangerous driving is blamed for 8.42 percent of the accidents.
