Police commission, senate resolve dispute
The ongoing recruitment of 10,000 personnel into the Nigeria Police Force, which was suspended following disagreement between the senate and the police service commission, is to resume.
Senate police affairs committee chairman, Abu Ibrahim, who made this known in an interview with newsmen, said both the commission and the senate had agreed that the recruitment would be based on the local government areas.
Under the agreement, he explained that nine personnel would be recruited from each of the country’s 774 local government areas to form the nucleus of the proposed community policing system.
The Senate had directed the police service commission to suspend the exercise following their disagreement over the criteria to be adopted in sharing the 10,000 slot among the states in the country.
The Senate Committee Chairman said it was envisaged that 30 persons would be recruited from each of the local government areas of the country in the next three years.
