South East and South South states governors, have agreed on political co-operation and integration of the economies of the two regions.
The governors at their maiden meeting held in Enugu, appointed Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom state as the forum’s chairman.
They say that the two eastern regions have common heritage, culture and destiny.
The governors agree to hold their next meeting in Port Harcourt on August 27.
Those at the meeting included the governors of Enugu, Ebonyi, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Imo, Abia, and Bayelsa states, as well as deputy governors of Edo and Delta states.
The Akwa Ibom governor disclosed the outcome of the meeting, which lasted for about five hours, saying, “Having reviewed the state of the nation, particularly as it concerns the South-East and South-South geopolitical zones, we have resolved to pursue inter-regional cooperation of integration for the benefit of the two regions.
“We have resolved to politically work together and realign as a people that share a common heritage, culture and affinity.”Please subscribe to our newsletter
