Sokoto initiates Nigeria’s first children-right-to-education bill

Sokoto State Government

Sokoto State Government has initiated a bill seeking to give children between the ages of six to 18 the right to education.

The bill is regarded as the first of its kind in the country making education a fundamental right of all children.

The State Justice Commissioner, Sulaiman Usman speaking to Newsmen in Sokoto, explained that with the bill, Sokoto State has emerged as the first to provide the right to education in line with chapter two of the 1999 constitution.

The bill is a component of the emergency in the education sector declared by governor Aminu Tambuwal last December.
