Former senate president, David Mark, has alleged that armed Fulani herdsmen are carrying out a genocidal attack on his kinsmen in Agatu villages in Benue state. Mark, whose convoy was fired upon by armed Fulani herdsmen during his visit to the Agatu villages on Friday, asked security forces to intervene urgently to stop the killings and destruction of property in the area. The security forces, Mark said must bring to book all those involved in the attacks which according to him was unimaginable. Senator Mark in a statement by his media aide, Paul Mumeh, said the Fulani herdsmen attacks had destroyed 1o Agatu villages, leaving 500 people dead, and destroying their properties in the recent attacks. The state governor, Samuel Ortom, had also cried out to the presidency that Fulani herdsmen are extending their attacks from Agatu villages to other parts of the state. Already, troops and mobile policemen had been deployed to the areas to keep the herdsmen in check.
