The Senate has begun moves to amend the 1999 constitution to accommodate the state and community police forces to be managed by the states.
A draft bill on the proposed state police force presented to the senate plenary on Thursday, passed through the first reading.
After the bill scaled through the first reading, the Senate Deputy President Ike Ekweremadu, said it will go through the second reading.
After the second reading, he explained that the bill will be taken to a public hearing.
The bill is supported by 75 senators, representing 82 per cent of the 109 members of the senate.Please subscribe to our newsletter
