Security forces kill detained militant leader during ambush to rescue him

Security forces have killed a militant leader in its custody in an attempt to rescue him by his fighters.

The militant leader, Oyawerikumor Peregbobofa, who had been in a military custody since last Tuesday, died in an ambush laid for security forces by his men in a bid to rescue him.

Spokesman of the joint task force, Major Ibrahim Abdullahi, said the militant leader was taking troops to his militant camp to recover cache of arms and ammunition in the creek, when they were ambushed.

He was arrested by joint military task force in connection with the kidnapping of four British Christian missionaries last October in the brass local government area of Delta State.

One of the missionaries later died.

He was also accused of being involved in mass kidnapping, armed robbery and raping of women, as well as, attacks on military camps in Bayelsa and Delta states.
