A committee set up by the Inspector General of Police to reform the special anti-robbery squad (SARS) has warned SARS operatives, not to extend their operations beyond the Anti- Armed Robbery and Kidnapping.
Head of the committee for the South West, Deputy Police Commissioner Adepoju Ilori, warns that any of them who violated the directive, will face appropriate sanctions.
Ilori who issues the warning, while leading the reform team to the FSARS at Magbon, Abeokuta, the Ogun State Capital, explained that their mission is to decongest SARS facilities and investigate their operations.
According to him, SARS operatives will continue to wear their existing uniforms during operation, until the end of the fact finding by his committee.
He asked the press, the civil society groups and members of the public to report all their observations on the operations of SARS to the state police commissioner.
The team, according to him, had already visited Lagos State, and will also visit SARS formations in other south west states.
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo ordered the reform of SARS, and restriction of their operations to anti-robbery, kidnapping and car snatching.
