The operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) are to undergo a training programme, to reposition the squad, following the growing calls that it should be scrapped.
Force headquarters spokesman, Jimoh Moshood, said the training to be undertaken by the police, some civil society organizations and non-governmental organizations, is part of moves by the inspector general of police, to restructure the squad.
Inspector General of Police had ordered the restructuring and the probe of the allegations levelled against the squad in the social media.
Under the interim arrangement, federal SARS will now operate at the zonal and state police commands under a commander with a minimum rank of superintendent, who will report to the federal SARS police commissioner, at the force headquarters.
Moshood explained that the Inspector General of Police X-squad has been directed to monitor the compliance with the IGP’s directive at the zonal and state police commands. Please subscribe to our newsletter
