Recession: Bishops Call for Urgent Economy Diversification

Catholic bishops conference of Nigeria has called for an urgent diversification of the economy following the sharp drop in oil revenue, in order to end the recession.

the bishops who made the call in a communique issued at the end of their conference in Akure, suggested that the economy be stimulated, investors mobilised, and people encouraged to engage in productive and not consumerist economy.

The communique signed by the Catholic Bishops Conference President, Bishop Ignatius Kaigama, wants practical and proactive steps be taken to end the recession, since the economic recession had caused the loss of jobs and delayed in salaries payment to those still having jobs

The bishops also asked Nigerians to moderate their taste for foreign goods, reduce wastes and be more prudent in expenditure.
