Quelea birds from Niger Republic have invaded farmland in 12 Local Government areas of Adamawa state.

The state government has embarked on emergency aerial spraying of insecticide on the affected areas to contain the advance of the invasion of the birds.

The aerial spraying is a national programme agreed upon by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and its state counterparts at a meeting in Abuja to map out measures to contain the birds.

Under the programme, the aerial spraying will be extended to states not affected by the invasion
