Presidency in ceasefire talks with Boko Haram faction

RECESSION: FG faults PDP call on Buhari to quit

The Presidency has said it is in talks with a faction of the Boko Haram sect, for a likely ceasefire in fighting in the North East region.

The faction, according to Information and Culture Minister, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, is Al Barnawi faction, which is aligned with West Africa wing of Islamic State.

The minister addressing newsmen in Lagos, is silent on details, but revealed that the talks had been on for a long time before the faction abducted more than 100 school girls from Dapchi.

The talks, according to him, facilitated the release of the Dapchi girls, the police officers wives and some University of Maiduguri lecturers.

He, however, expressed concern over the alleged politicization of security issues, while urging the media to be wary of reports capable of sabotaging last minute operations by the military to end insurgency in the North East region.
