Police/Shiite Clash: IG accuses Sect of Attacking Police

Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris has defended the clampdown by Police on members of Shiite Muslim Sect, which led to the death of a police officer and eight members of the sect in Kano State.

The clashes on the outskirt of Kano metropolis on Monday, occurred when police were deployed to prevent the procession by members of the sect into the city.

Idris, addressing the State House Correspondents after attending the launch of the 2017 armed forces emblem fund at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, said Police have the responsibility to maintain law and order.
