PHCN Privatization: GENCO, DISCO fault Dangote

Aliko Dangote

Association of Nigerian Electricity Distribution Companies has faulted calls by Africa’s Richest Man, Aliko Dangote, for the reversal of the privatization of power holding company of Nigeria (PHCN).

The Association’s Executive Director of Research and Advocacy, Sunday Oduntan, described Dangote’s call as reckless.

Dangote had asked the presidency to re-take over the PHCN assets from the Electricity Distribution Companies and Electricity Generation Companies, and hand them over to investors who have both the expertise and capital.

Oduntan said Dangote’s call was a follow up to his failed bid in 2013 to acquire some of the assets of PHCN, adding that the association was shocked that the billionaire who benefited from the past privatization would make such a comment.
