The two major factions of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are planning to hold separate national convention on Saturday, despite moves to reconcile them.
The faction led by the PDP interim National Chairman, Ali Modu Sheriff, will hold its national convention in Port Harcourt, with all the PDP serving governors, and a faction of the board of trustees in attendance.
Also expected at the Port Harcourt convention are the PDP caucus members in the national assembly and a faction of the national working committee.
For the rival faction led by former information Minister,Professor Jerry Gana, its national convention is scheduled to take place in Abuja with most of the founding fathers of the party, most of the former PDP governors and former PDP ministers in attendance.
Top leaders of both factions met separately in Abuja on Tuesday, to fine tune arrangements for their parallel national convention, while moves are on to reconcile them before Saturday.
