Osinbajo calls Nigeria’s rising population a time bomb

The presidency said it is worried over the rising population in the country.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo said the population growth is becoming a time bomb that must be nipped in the bud, to avoid being exploded.

Osinbajo who raised the issue, at a forum organized by the United Nations population fund in Abuja, said that Nigeria’s fertility rate is worrisome.

According to the fertility rate, the vice president explains that the rate of birth per woman in Nigeria is 5.5, while child marriage still remains high at 18 percent.

Nigeria’s according to him, urgently needs to build an economy that will create new jobs and education for all, in order to cope with the population explosion.

The vice president asked religious leaders to join in the campaign against child marriage, maternal and new born deaths and to support massive investments in education
