Ogun State has refused to join other South West states in allocating land to Lagos State for rice cultivation and production.
Ogun State Deputy Governor, Mrs Yetunde Onanuga, raised the objection while a Memorandum of Understanding on the request of Lagos was being signed on Wednesday at the end of the meeting of the South West governors in Ikeja, Lagos.
According to the agreement, which is part of the meeting’s communique, five other South West states are to allocate at least 1,000 hectare of land to Lagos, for the rice project.
But Ogun Deputy Governor said she will not sign the land deal, because of the outstanding dispute over a parcel of land that Ogun State government allocated to Lagos in past years, for a rice project.
She explained that Ogun will not sign the agreement on land allocation to Lagos until the issue is resolved.
Responding, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos promised that the outstanding issue on the land will be resolved with Ogun State government.
