Ogun State Government says it has given loan totaling N54 million to farmers through the FADAMA three programme, to increase agricultural production in the state.
Agriculture commissioner, Mrs Ronke Sokefun who made this known during the distribution of the fund to benefitting farmers in Abeokuta, said it would boost the income of farmers in the state, and improve the Nation’s economy in the face of the economic recession.
The commissioner, represented by the governor’s senior special assistant on agriculture, Mr. Dipe Goke, said the funding had financed the cultivation of 200 hectares of lowland rice at Ode-Omi in the Ijebu Waterside.
She said the sum of N141.4million has also been approved for 83 production groups for the production of cassava and N542.1 million for the rice production in Ode-Omi and Onidundun clusters.
Sokefun said the ministry has received 147 business plans on cassava production which would be funded with N249 million from the international development association (IDA).
