Ogun Assembly cautions Customs over killings during raids

Armed robbers to die in Ogun

Ogun State House of Assembly has expressed concern over the killing of four persons by operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service, while intercepting rice from suspected smugglers last Saturday at Ilara, near Imeko Afon, in Ogun State.

Six other persons were injured in the fighting between the customs patrol and the smugglers.

The Speaker, Suraj Adekunbi, asked the Customs officers to be always civil while conducting raids, to prevent the unnecessary loss of lives in the state, especially those of innocent people in the border towns.

The House Minority Whip, Jemili Akingbade, alleged that the Customs operatives during the last Saturday’s operation, crossed the border into Benin Republic and raided a warehouse at Kanga-Ilara border town.

Akingbade further alleged that the Customs operatives, while attempting to evacuate the rice from the border town into Nigeria, killed four persons including a 75-year-old woman, and injured eight others.
