Northern Elders Forum has said the region is not afraid of restructuring of the country being advocated by the South’s three geo-politcal zones.
The forum spokesman, Governor Aminu Tambuwal, dismissed the insinuation that the north opposes the calls for restructuring, because the present structure favours it.
Tambuwal speaking in Kaduna at a conference on restructuring organized by the Arewa Research and Development Project, contends that North supports the restructuring of the country, like their counterparts in the South.
The governor, however, explained that the concept of restructuring supported by the North is inclusive and must follow the due process.
Tambuwal said his own concept of restructuring is an arrangement, whereby none of the 36 states takes a disproportionate amount of national resources, as well as, the available spaces in the education and job sectors.
He said, “The idea that the North is against restructuring because it benefits most from the current state of things is patently false. The fact that some people continue to parrot such a lie only help to lend credence to the flawed argument.
“Let us be clear: the North wants restructuring as much as anyone else.”
He, however, added, “We do not easily jump on the bandwagon because we are always there for the long haul. We believe that any decision we take must be inclusive, respect procedures and processes so that the outcome is sustainable.”Please subscribe to our newsletter
