NATIONAL ASSEMBLY TAKES OVER KOGI ASSEMBLY

The National Assembly has revoked the impeachment of the Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Momoh Lawal, and takes over the legislative functions of the assembly.
It directed the inspector general of police, Solomon Arase to seal up the house of assembly until the crisis in the assembly is resolved.
The decision followed the Senate’s adoption of a motion by the House of Representatives on the illegal removal of the speaker by five out of 20 members of the house of assembly.
In taking over the assembly, the national assembly says it is exercising its powers under section 11, sub-section four of the Nigerian constitution until the leadership crisis in the Kogi assembly is resolved.
The Senate President, Bukola Saraki, who said the national assembly has the powers to intervene in the Kogi assembly crisis, said it serves as a warning that the era when the minority take over the house of assembly is gone
