Polls: Jega accuses politicians of scaring away voters

Former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega, has accused Nigerian politicians of scaring away voters from polling booths during elections.

Jega who presided over the 2016 polls, said Politicians with their win-or-die mentality are posing threat to the management of election in the country.

Speaking at the birthday ceremony of APC National Legal Adviser, Muiz Banire in Lagos, Jega said politicians have turned political arena into a bloody battlefield, maiming, killing, burning and causing un-imagined destruction of lives and property.

Jega said before the 2015 polls, INEC faced the critical task of convincing voters to come out and vote, due to the heated political atmosphere.
