INEC processing 32 applications for new parties

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it has received fresh 32 applications from the various associations seeking for registration as political parties.

The agency chairman, Professor Mahmud Yakubu, who made this known at the quarterly consultative meeting with the chairmen and secretaries of registered political parties in Abuja.

Yakubu who said the applications are still undergoing processing, expects more of the applications ahead of the 2019 polls.

The INEC chairman also said the electoral agency successfully prosecuted and convicted 42 electoral offenders despite its financial problems, adding it represents the highest number of conviction by INEC in a single case.
