Heavy weapons suggested for the mobile force, include Anti-tank weapons, General Purpose Machine Gun and other weapons to cope with the military grade weapons being operated by criminals and terrorists in the country.
Idris who made the call at the maiden meeting of commanders of the Police Mobile Force (PMF), Special Protection Unit and Counter-Terrorism Unit, at the force headquarters in Abuja, called for the review of the armament police of the PMF to accommodate the proposal.
He said special police units in other continents such as Europe, Asia and Middle East carry military grade weapons that are above those of the regular police units, but below that of the military.
Meanwhile, the police service commission has approved the promotion of 47 assistant commissioners of police to deputy police commissioner.
The commission Spokesman, Ikechukwu Ali, in a statement also said 10 Deputy Superintendents of police were promoted to the Superintendents of Police.
