Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State has called for a drastic cut in the percentage of the counterpart fund payable by the state governments, to access the programmes of the Universal Basic Education (UBEC).
Alternatively, the governor advocated the deletion of counterpart fund from the UBEC act.
Ahmed made the call, while receiving the UBEC commission’s monitoring team, at the Government House in Ilorin.
The governor called for the reduction of the counterpart fund payable by the states from 50 per cent to 10 per cent, to enable most for the states participate in UBEC programme.
He explained that most of the state government cannot afford the 50 per cent counterpart funding, due to a sharp drop in their revenue.Please subscribe to our newsletter
