The Senate of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has passed a vote of confidence in the ability of the institution’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Olusola Oyewole.
The Senate at its meeting held on Wednesday November 30, reviewed the current situation in the university, and says it is satisfied with the measures taken by the university’s governing council and management, to ensure peace, security and uninterrupted academic activities in the university.
The Senate, according to its secretary, Matthew Ayoola, considered the allegations levelled against some officers of the university now before a court, and will not comment on it, on the ground that all accused are presumed innocent until proven wrong by the court.
It renewed its confidence in the ability of the Vice Chancellor to provide academic and administrative leadership during the remaining tenure of his administration, adding that the process of selecting a new Vice Chancellor has begun in accordance with the law.
The Senate also expressed concern over the emerging trend in Nigerian universities where some persons or groups in the guise of unionism, acting alone or in concert with internal and external influence, seek to control the administration and undermine peace and harmony in the university.
Meanwhile, the Governing Council has approved the elevation of 23 Readers as Professors, and 285 other academic and non-teaching staff by the Vice Chancellor
The Vice Chancellor accompanied by Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Professor Oluyemisi Eromosele and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Development), Professor Ololade Enikuomehin, had inspected the examination centres in the university to ascertain the conduct of students and invigilators in the ongoing examinations.
