The Presidency has begun controlling the advance of Quelea Birds, grass cutters, locusts and other pests invading Nigeria from Niger republic through the border states of Sokoto and Kebbi States in the North West Region.
The take-off of the control involved aerial spraying of farms in Kebbi to prevent the spread of the birds, pests and grass cutters from advancing to other frontline states in the north.
Agriculture minister, Chief Audu Ogbeh, speaking at the flag-off of the exercise, said President Buhari gave a marching order to contain the pests and birds, following report that they are already destroying rice and wheat farms in Kebbi.
Last week, Kebbi deputy governor, Samaila Dabbai, alerted of the presence of Quelea Birds from Niger republic in Goronyo in Sokoto State, heading towards the State.
