Energy from waste plant to be sited in Abeokuta

A pilot energy project to generate electricity from wastes is to be sited in Abeokuta, the Ogun State Capital to reduce power outage in the state.

A feasibility study of the project sponsored by the European Union is to be inaugurated on Wednesday, by Governor Ibikunle Amosun on Wednesday in Abeokuta.

Environment commissioner, Bolaji Oyeleye, who made this known in a statement, said the waste-to-energy project is being executed by the state government in collaboration with Lafarge Holom Africa.

The commissioner said EU would not only sponsor the feasibility study of the project, but provide fund for the execution of the project.

Oyeleye said the proposed feasibility study to be undertaken by a team of consultants, involves field trips, and house-to-house enumeration.
