Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State has said APC governors in the North are committed to seeing that President Muhammadu Buhari seeks re-election in 2019
El-Rufai gives this indication while speaking to the state house correspondents after joining six other North’s APC governor to meet Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja
The other six governors are those of Kano, Yobe, Kogi, Niger, Plateau and Adamawa states.
El-rufai said that as politicians, himself and the six other governors want Buhari to join the 2019 presidential race, and has no apology over the issue.
As first term governors, except Yobe state governors, el-Rufai explained that they want continuity in office, and for Buhari to continue running the country in the right direction.
He said, “We are politicians and those of us you see here want the President to contest the 2019 election. We have no apologies for that.
“We believe in Mr. President, we want him to continue running the country in the right direction.
“People can speculate about 2019, we have no apologies. Whether they are right or wrong is beside the point.
“Everybody is entitled to his own opinion, but as governors, and most of us here with the exception of Yobe Governor, are first time governors, we are interested in continuity and stability and we want the President to continue with that.”
Earlier, the governors had joined Buhari at the Jumat prayers inside the Villa mosque. Please subscribe to our newsletter
