A female suicide bomber has killed eight worshippers and injures 15 others in a fresh suicide attack in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
The attack on a mosque took place at London Chiki during prayers.
Head of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Ahmed Satomi said the suicide bomber was being pursued from other part of the city by people who suspected her.
The bomber who was stopped on approach to the mosque for a search by security personnel evaded them and escaped into the mosque and detonates the improvised explosive device strapped to her body.
Nine persons, including the suicide bomber died in the explosion.
“She killed eight people and injured 15 others. The mosque was being guarded by civilian JTF (joint task force militia) during prayers,” he told AFP.
“Unknown to them, the girl was being pursued from another part of town by residents who were suspicious of her movement at the time. When she approached the mosque, they demanded that she stop to be searched but she suddenly bolted into the mosque and set off her bombs.”
Elsewhere in the city, the state police commissioner, Damian Chukwu, said three other female suicide bombers were killed by soldiers drafted to Mamanti and Cimeri areas of the metropolis.
They were killed while trying to cross the ditch around the perimeter around the city.
Last Monday, suicide bombers also attacked the city, leaving 19 people dead and 23 injured at Molai Kolemari area.
