Construction of Abeokuta City Centre project begins at Oke Ilewo

The construction of projects in the proposed Abeokuta City Center project in the Oke Ilewo axis of the Ogun State capital.

Major projects to be located in the proposed city centre, included the shopping mall of Africa’s largest goods retailer, the Shoprite; service apartment, hotel, and amphi theatre.

Other projects are the corporate office of GTBank Plc and First Bank Plc whose construction had already begun.

The proposed corporate offices, including a 12-storey building will control the activities of the banks in West Africa.

Governor Ibikunle Amosun who made this known during a visit the project site, said contractors have started mobilizing to site of the projects, which are being undertaken by the state government and its corporate partners.

Another major project that will be located in the city centre, according to the governor, is the central station of the federal government’s rail project.

The governor explained that the projects will be private sector-driven, while the state government will only construct the amphi theatre.

He assured that the city centre project will be completed within the next 24 months.

The promoter of the proposed Shoprite project, Tayo Amusan, said the mega supermarket when completed will be the second largest branch in Nigeria.
