Convicted armed robbers in Ogun state are to die by hanging, according to a bill passed by the State House of Assembly to rid the state of criminal elements.
Also, those convicted of kidnapping in the state will now spend the rest of their life in prison.
Such convicted kidnappers will be executed if their victim dies in their custody.
The bill also stipulates a 25 year jail term for anyone convicted of using dangerous weapons to forcefully take over landed property.
The laws were part of the harmonized bill criminalising armed robbery, kidnapping, land grabbing, and other violent conducts passed by the assembly during the Tuesday plenary.
The house majority leader, Adeyinka Mafe moved a motion for the passage of the bill, after the adoption of the report on the bill presented by the Deputy Speaker, Kunle Oluomo.
Other provisions of the bill is that owners of building used by kidnappers and ritualists as their hideout will forfeit the structure to the Ogun state government.
The Deputy Speaker spoke on other provisions of the bill.
The Speaker, Suraj Adekunmbi, has directed the assembly clerk to send a clean copy of the bill to Governor Amosun for his assent.
